High-accuracy mass attenuation coefficients and X-ray absorption spectroscopy of zinc – the first X-ray Extended Range Technique-like experiment in Australia

چکیده

The first X-ray Extended Range Technique (XERT)-like experiment at the Australian Synchrotron, Australia, is presented. In this mass attenuation coefficients are measured across an energy range including zinc K -absorption edge and absorption fine structure (XAFS). These high-accuracy measurements recorded 496 energies from 8.51 keV to 11.59 keV. XERT protocol dictates that systematic errors due dark current nonlinearities, correction for blank measurements, full-foil mapping characterize absolute value of attenuation, scattering, harmonics roughness over extended experimental parameter space. This results in data better analysis, culminating measurement -edge 0.023–0.036% accuracy. Dark corrections energy- structure-dependent magnitude reached 57% thicker samples but was still large significant thin samples. Blank scaled foil by 60–500%; up 90% even foils. Full-foil characterization corrected discrepancies between foils 20%, rendering possibility attenuation. Fluorescence scattering also a major correction. Harmonics, bandwidth were explored. calibrated using standard reference represent most extensive accurate which enable investigations theory experiments. work almost fully automated greatly increasing large-scale studies XERT.

New consistency tests for high-accuracy measurements of X-ray mass attenuation coefficients by the X-ray extended-range technique.

An extension of the X-ray extended-range technique is described for measuring X-ray mass attenuation coefficients by introducing absolute measurement of a number of foils - the multiple independent foil technique. Illustrating the technique with the results of measurements for gold in the 38-50 keV energy range, it is shown that its use enables selection of the most uniform and well defined of ...

High-resolution X-ray emission and X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

In this review, high-resolution X-ray emission and X-ray absorption spectroscopy will be discussed. The focus is on the 3d transition-metal systems. To understand high-resolution X-ray emission and resonant X-ray emission, it is first necessary to spend some time discussing the X-ray absorption process. Section II discusses 1s X-ray absorption, i.e., the K edges, and section III deals with 2p X...

Radiation attenuation properties of shields containing micro and Nano WO3 in diagnostic X-ray energy range

Background: It has recently been shown that the particle size of materials used for radiation shielding can affect the magnitude of radiation attenuation. Over the past years, application of nano-structured materials in radiation shielding has attracted attention world-wide. The purpose of this study was to investigate the shielding properties of the lead-free shields containing micro and nano-...

X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy

X-ray absorptioń spectroscopy, today widely used as a tool for structural investigations, is described. Theoretically it is shown that above an absorption edge the absorption coefficient is well approximated by a sum of terms, each one describing a particular path followed by the photoelectron outgoing from the atom. Such geometrical feature allows to use X-ray absorption spectroscopy for struc...
